Burnley Council's Economic Development Unit is supporting the Shuttleworth Mead Business Park through their UNLOCKING INVESTMENT PROGRAMME.

The purpose of the scheme is to assist the Borough's key private sector businesses and developers, in brining forward and 'unlocking' major investment and expansion proposals, thereby creating much needed employment opportunities within the Borough. Businesses considering relocating to Shuttleworth Mead Business Park may qualify for assistance under this grant programme.

Business Environment Association
The Business Environment Association (Burnley) was launched in November 1997, with support from the Government's Single Regeneration Budget.

The Association offers cost-effective, practical support to Burnley businesses - helping reduce environmental pressures and offering tangible business benefits. Whether its reducing costs through waste minimisation and energy management or complying with legal requirements, the BEA (Burnley) can help. Members benefit from seminars, workshops, grant advice, on-site consultations, a telephone help-line and information update service.

The BEA offer the following grant support package to Businesses

• Environmental Review Grant - 66% grant funding to a maximum of £1000 towards the cost of an environmental review of a company
• Green Grant - 50% grant funding to a maximum of £3000 towards the cost of implementing environmental improvements recommended in an environmental assessme

Burnley College - Business Development Unit
Burnley College has won funds from the European Social Fund to provide training and support for the unemployed in the area, by providing training to match the skills required by new businesses moving to Shuttleworth Mead Business Park.

The training will range from basic skills up to NVQ level 4 with courses being as varied as basic computer literacy and information technology, to fork lift truck driving.

Burnley Telematics and Teleworking Centre

A community based company which is aiming to provide a mobile information technology training service to individuals, businesses, organisations and communities including women, people with disabilities, special needs and ethnic minorities. The company will assist businesses to upgrade the computer skills of their employees thereby improving their business efficiency by delivering training in the workplace.

East Lancs Careers Service
ELCS aim to deliver high quality Careers Services which raise aspirations and enable people to maximise their career potential thus contributing to raising skill levels and the economic success of East Lancashire.

For employers, elcs offer:

• A free service to local employers advertising their vacancies with elcs
• Active encouragement for the Government's 'Lifelong Learning' strategy
• Assistance with the task of recruiting young people, identifying appropriate candidates and matching them to the needs of employers
• Help to understand current qualifications and identify training and further education courses in order to ensure the workforce is fully developed

APS specialise in providing daily cleaning requirements to businesses. Cleaning contracts are run on a daily basis (7 days per week), and all staff are supervised, with the smooth operation of the contract overseen by the Contracts Manager. Offering a local based quality service in which the company aims to provide a high standard of cleanliness utilising trained, motivated and efficient staff empowered and directed by supportive and involved management. New contracts will be primarily staffed through the Burnley Employment and Training Charter with all staff receiving both off-site and on-site training of the highest standards.
